About

Otto by Platoona — an open-source browser agent that actually uses the web

Otto is an open-source browser automation agent that interacts with websites the same way a human does.

You tell Otto what you want done.
It clicks, types, scrolls, and navigates pages inside your browser — directly through the UI.

No APIs.
No site-specific integrations.
No brittle selectors you have to maintain.

If you can do it in the browser, Otto can try to do it too.

What makes Otto different
Most automation tools talk to websites.
Otto works inside the browser UI.

That means:
- It doesn’t rely on official APIs
- It doesn’t require websites to “support” automation
- It keeps working even when sites change their internals

Otto automates the browser the way real users actually use the web.

How Otto works (at a high level)
Otto runs as a Chromium extension and executes tasks by:
- Observing the current page
- Understanding visible UI elements
- Performing real user actions:
    -> clicking buttons
    -> typing into inputs
    -> scrolling pages
    -> navigating between tabs
    -> following links
    -> filling forms

You give instructions in plain language.
Otto turns them into concrete UI actions.

Otto is an open-source project released early by design. It’s intentionally young so we can get real technical feedback, uncover edge cases, and see what breaks in the wild while building in the open with the community rather than behind closed doors. Otto requires browser permissions to read page structure and perform real, user-like actions such as clicking and typing, but it does not silently send browsing data anywhere and has no hidden cloud execution. Because it can actively control web pages, it should be used deliberately—avoid sensitive or critical tasks, review the code if you’re unsure, and treat rough edges as expected and useful signals at this stage.
