About
It does one thing: tells you when you have new mail. And it does it to two extreme standards. Flagship #1: Near-zero memory Typical mail-checker extensions keep 50–100 MB resident at all times — a steep price for one unread number. Gmail Mini Checker uses the Manifest V3 event-driven architecture to push memory to its theoretical floor: The service worker fully unloads when idle — resident memory is near 0 MB; you won't even find its process in the browser task manager It wakes only for the 1–2 seconds of each periodic check, then releases everything The popup renders instantly from a local cache and frees itself the moment you close it Even the chimes are synthesized live with Web Audio — no audio files are bundled at all; the whole extension is under 50 KB Flagship #2: Privacy first — your data never leaves your device Your inbox holds bills, contracts, private conversations. So this extension holds privacy to the same extreme standard as memory: Zero data leaves your device: the only network destination is Google's official Gmail feed (mail.google.com) — the same servers your browser already talks to; message info stays on your machine, with no external server in between Minimal permissions: just 3 basic permissions (scheduling, local storage, chime playback) plus the Gmail domain — not one more than needed No credentials handled: no passwords are accessed or stored; authentication is entirely your existing Google session No ads, no tracking, no analytics Features The icon is the status: gray when nothing is new, red with an unread-count badge when mail arrives Click the icon to preview unread mail: sender, subject, snippet, relative time Click any preview to jump straight to that message; the unread count drops instantly One-click Gmail home / compose buttons New-mail chime: 9 selectable sounds (from soft chimes to a loud fanfare), or off Multi-account support — pick the account to watch by its real email address Adjustable check interval (30 s – 30 min) Dark mode and 10 interface languages Clicking a preview opens that message in Gmail (which marks it read).
