About
Slop Detector -- Spot AI-Generated Content on Any Webpage
Is that article written by a human or churned out by a language model? Slop Detector scores any webpage's text using three heuristic signals -- no API calls, no cloud, everything runs locally in your browser.
How It Works
Slop Detector extracts the main text from article, blog, or content elements on the page, then runs three scoring passes:
Phrase Density (40% weight) -- Checks for known AI-favored phrases like "delve into", "it's important to note", "in today's fast-paced world", and 25+ others. More hits per 200 words = higher score.
Sentence Variance (30% weight) -- Measures the uniformity of sentence lengths. AI tends to write sentences of similar length. Low variance in sentence structure raises the score.
Vocabulary Patterns (30% weight) -- Looks for overuse of AI-typical adjectives ("comprehensive", "robust", "seamless", "leverage") and transition words ("however", "moreover", "furthermore"). Also checks type-token ratio.
Score Interpretation
• 0-29 -- Likely human-written
• 30-54 -- Possibly AI-assisted
• 55-74 -- Probably AI-generated
• 75-100 -- Almost certainly AI slop
Features
Floating Score Badge -- A small badge in the bottom-right corner shows the slop score and a quick verdict. Click to see the full breakdown in the popup. Dismiss per-site if you don't want it.
Signal Breakdown -- The popup shows each scoring signal with its individual value, so you can see exactly which patterns triggered.
Per-Site Memory -- Dismiss the badge on sites where you don't need it.
Minimum Text Threshold -- Only scores pages with 100+ characters of content. Won't distract you on login pages or dashboards.
Limitations
This is a heuristic tool, not a classifier. It detects patterns commonly associated with AI text, but cannot definitively prove authorship. Human writers who use formal, templated language may score higher. AI-generated text that has been heavily edited may score lower. Use it as one signal among many.
Privacy First
All analysis runs locally in your browser. Slop Detector makes zero network requests. No data collection, no analytics, no tracking. Your browsing content is never sent anywhere.
Who It's For
Editors vetting submissions. Readers who want to know what they're reading. Students checking sources. Anyone who cares about whether content was written by a person or generated by a machine.Technical
