About

NoAI gives you a simple, transparent way to hide or block Google’s AI-generated response cards so you can focus on standard search results.

~ What it does ~

Provides three modes: Off (disabled), Hidden (removes AI response cards from the page), and Blocked (appends "-noai" to queries to reduce AI responses).

Runs in your browser using a content script and a background service worker; no text is sent to external servers.

Tracks how many AI responses were blocked using local and sync storage (counts are stored in Chrome storage and synced only if you allow it).

~ Key features ~

Quick mode selection from the popup with a slider and concise descriptions.

Hidden mode removes detected AI overview cards and related items via local DOM/CSS changes.

Blocked mode appends "-noai" to searches and cleans the UI so the address bar, title, and suggestions don’t show the suffix.

Lightweight: content script runs only on Google search pages; background service worker handles count syncing and navigation events.
Privacy-first: uses chrome.storage and local processing only. No external network calls for content analysis.

~ Permissions (what is actually used) ~

storage: to save the chosen blocker level and blocked counts (local + sync).

webNavigation: to detect Google search navigations for counting and behavior adjustment.

alarms: to periodically sync local blocked counts into sync storage.

host permission limited to Google search pages: "://.google.com/search*"

!! Limitations & notes !!

NoAI relies on the current structure and text patterns of Google’s search page. Changes to Google’s markup or wording may reduce effectiveness.

The Blocked mode modifies the search query by appending "-noai", which can slightly change search results.

Counts use Chrome storage (local + sync); synced counts are only stored via chrome.storage.sync if you use Chrome’s sync feature.
