## Name
AA for Canvas

## Short Description
Scan Canvas LMS courses for accessibility issues and unused files. Fix alt text, headings, links, and duplicates in one click.

## Detailed Description

Canvas courses accumulate problems that no one sees until an audit: images without alt text, headings that skip levels, links that say "click here," files uploaded three times under different names. Instructors lack the time to find these issues manually. Existing commercial tools cost thousands per year, require IT approval, and separate scanning from remediation.

AA eliminates that gap.

Open any Canvas course. Click scan. AA checks every page, assignment, quiz, discussion, and announcement for WCAG 2.1 conformance issues across five categories: images and alt text, heading structure, link quality, table markup, and document accessibility. It simultaneously identifies unused files consuming storage and duplicate uploads wasting space.

The results appear in a side panel alongside Canvas, organized by severity (errors, warnings, informational) with WCAG criterion references for each finding. A health score from 0 to 100 gives an immediate read on course quality.

Scanning is the easy part. The difference is what happens next.

Select an image missing alt text. Type a description. Apply. AA writes the fix directly to Canvas through the API, no copy-pasting between tools, no manual HTML editing. Mark decorative images in bulk with one button. Fix every "opens in new window" link warning at once. Delete unused files individually or in batch. Each action modifies the live course content.

Five categories of accessibility checks, drawn from WCAG 2.1 AA criteria:

Images: missing alt text, empty alt attributes, filenames used as alt text, suspiciously short or long descriptions.
Headings: skipped heading levels, missing H1, empty headings, bold text masquerading as headings.
Links: vague link text ("click here," "read more"), raw URLs as link text, empty links, new-window links without user warning.
Tables: missing header cells, missing scope attributes, tables without captions.
Documents: linked PDFs and Office documents flagged for manual accessibility review.

File cleanup runs in parallel: unused file detection cross-references every file in the course against every content reference, then surfaces files that nothing links to, sorted by size. Duplicate detection groups files by exact name, normalized name (stripping version suffixes), and matching size plus type.

All processing runs locally in the browser. No data leaves the device. No external servers. No accounts to create. No API tokens to configure. AA uses the existing Canvas session, nothing more.

Built for instructors, instructional designers, and accessibility coordinators who need to fix problems, not just be told they exist.
