About

Focus Gate: Website Blocker with a Mindful Pause

Focus Gate adds a short pause before you open distracting websites, helping you slow down and make more intentional choices online.

When you open a site you’ve added, Focus Gate shows a short quote or custom message. You can choose how the pause works:

Type the message to unlock the site, or

Simply view the message and continue

That brief interruption is often enough to break automatic habits and bring your attention back to what you actually want to do.

How it works

Choose the websites you want Focus Gate to guard.

When one of those sites opens, a simple overlay appears with a quote or custom message.

Choose your pause style:

Typing mode: type the full message to unlock the site

View-only mode: read the message and continue

Optionally enable a cooldown to avoid repeated prompts.

Each unlock becomes a small moment of awareness instead of an impulsive click.

Cooldown (optional)

Cooldown helps keep Focus Gate supportive rather than annoying.

After you unlock a site once, reopening it during the cooldown window will not show the pause again. When the cooldown expires, the pause returns the next time you open that site.

Cooldown is off by default and fully configurable. It applies only to the sites you’ve added.

Key features

Add any website you want. No preset categories.

Optional typing challenge to slow down impulsive behavior.

View-only mode for a lighter, faster pause.

Built-in motivational quotes included by default.

Per-site custom messages for different websites.

Configurable cooldowns to control how often the pause appears.

Session-aware behavior that avoids unnecessary repetition.

Clean, minimal overlay that stays out of the way.

Runs locally on your device. No accounts, no tracking, no data collection.

Free version available, with optional Pro features for more flexibility.

Why it’s useful

Most distractions happen without intention. You open a tab for a quick check and lose track of time.

Focus Gate doesn’t try to block the internet completely. Instead, it introduces a brief pause that helps you notice what you’re doing before you continue.

Over time, these small pauses can reduce mindless browsing, limit tab hopping, and support healthier screen habits.

Setup

Install Focus Gate.

Open the dashboard and add the sites you want to guard.

Choose typing mode or view-only mode.

Optionally set a cooldown.

That’s it.

Summary

Focus Gate turns opening distracting websites into a conscious decision.

With a short pause, optional typing, custom messages, and simple cooldowns, it helps you browse with intention—without strict lockouts or heavy restrictions.
