About

Traction Time Tracker is an ambient time tracker for founders, indie hackers and solopreneurs who can never remember where the week actually went.                      

It watches your active tab and splits each day into three buckets:                         
                                                                  
    • Product — building, coding, design, your stack                                         
    • Marketing — talking to customers, posting, outreach, ads    
    • Browsing — everything else (news, social, off-task)                                    
                                                                                             
At the end of the week you get a one-tap breakdown — no stopwatch, no post-hoc guessing, no "I think I spent half my time on demos?"                             
                                                                                             
WHAT'S IN IT

▸  Auto-classifies ~40 common sites; you can re-bucket any site in Setup
▸ Focus timer with optional bucket override — force "this hour counts as Marketing" even on a Product-leaning site                                           
▸ Pomodoro mode (4 × 25-minute sprints + 5/15-minute breaks) with pause / skip / stop and notification on phase change                                   
▸ Continue — one-click resume of your last focused task with the timer picking up where you Stopped                                                           
▸ Time log with rename, merge (give two tasks the same name), delete, and a per-day breakdown                                                                
▸ Activity log with date arrows — every page visit, grouped by host
▸ Toolbar badge ticks while a focus is running, so you can see it's tracking with the side panel closed                                                    
▸ Idle + window-blur aware — auto-pauses when you walk away, resumes when you come back                                                                     
                                                                  
  PRIVACY (the important bit)                                                                
                                                                  
Your active-tab URLs, per-host time, and the activity log live ONLY in your browser's local storage. They are never sent to any server. We do not read page content — there is no content script. We do not record mouse movements, scrolls, clicks, or selections. There is no telemetry, no analytics, and no third-party tracking.                                                 
                                                                  
The ONLY time anything leaves your browser is when you explicitly press "Log this week to Traction" — and the only thing that gets sent is the weekly aggregate (hours on Product, hours on Marketing, your optional note). No URLs. No host list. No per-task data.                                            
                                                                                             
You can use 100% of the time tracker without ever signing in.                              
                                                                  
  OPTIONAL: TRACTION APP INTEGRATION                                                         
                                                                  
If you use the Traction web app (onlytraction.com), connect this extension once and your weekly hours sync to your project's weekly log in one click. The extension also surfaces matching channels from the 19 Bullseye traction channels when you're on a known channel site, so running experiments are one tab-switch away.                                               
                                                                                             
You don't need a Traction account to use the extension. It's a standalone time tracker that happens to integrate nicely if you have one.                  
                                                                                             
  PERMISSIONS                                                                                
  
    • sidePanel  — required for the panel UI                                                 
    • storage    — local-only persistence (chrome.storage.local)  
    • alarms     — drives the periodic flush + Pomodoro state machine                        
    • tabs       — reads the active tab's URL + title for the classifier
    • idle       — auto-pause after 60s of inactivity                                        
    • notifications — Pomodoro phase-change pings                                            
                                                                                             
We do not request activeTab, scripting, host content access, or any all-urls content-script permission. The classifier works from URL + title alone.
