Changelog
- Jun 5, 2026description
BillingBench: Workflow Companion is a sidebar that sits next to any payer portal including Availity, Waystar, Change Healthcare, Office Ally, and others. Billing staff can look up denial codes, build appeals, and track decisions without switching tabs. DENIAL CODE LOOKUP Paste or type any CARC code (CO, PR, OA, or PI) to get a plain-language explanation, the regulatory authority behind the denial, and a guided decision path: appeal, write off, or hold. GUIDED APPEAL WORKFLOW A short set of questions returns a specific recommended action for each code. The same logic powers the BillingBench Denial Decoder at billingbench.com/decoder. PRIOR AUTHORIZATION REQUIREMENTS Select a specialty and enter a CPT code to see exactly what Aetna, UHC, or Cigna requires before they will authorize the procedure — documentation, clinical criteria, and submission notes — without leaving the portal. SESSION TRACKING Start a session when you open your remit. Log each denial with your decision, claim amount, and payer. End the session for a summary showing total claims worked, appeals filed, write-offs, and dollars in motion. Sessions are saved locally and resume after Chrome restarts. PROMPT PAY AND TIMELY FILING CALCULATOR Enter your state, payer type, date of service, and claim amount to calculate interest owed under state prompt payment law and days remaining before the timely filing deadline. Covers all 50 states and distinguishes commercial, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and self-funded plans. PAYER ALERTS Verified payer policy changes and denial pattern shifts appear in the sidebar, filtered to the portal you are currently working in. Signed-in users can submit new incidents and confirm or dispute existing reports. 835 ERA DETECTION When you download an 835 remittance file while the sidebar is open, the extension prompts you to open the BillingBench ERA Parser. The file is never sent to the extension automatically. NO ACCOUNT REQUIRED Denial lookup, prior auth requirements, session tracking, and the calculator all work without an account. A free account adds session export, dashboard tracking by payer, and the community alerts feed. PRIVACY The extension does not read payer portal page content by default and does not transmit data to BillingBench servers unless you are signed in and explicitly end a session. Optional portal auto-detection (which reads denial codes from portal pages) requires a signed BAA and explicit permission grant. Denial codes and session decisions are stored only in your browser. Full policy at billingbench.com/privacy. DISCLAIMER BillingBench provides reference information based on published denial code definitions, state statutes, and regulatory guidance. It is not legal, medical, or financial advice. Always verify against current payer documentation and your specific contracts.
BillingBench: Workflow Companion adds a persistent sidebar to Chrome that puts denial code search, payer reference data, and community intelligence alongside the remittance queues, prior authorization portals, and clearinghouse interfaces where billing work actually happens. For signed-in accounts, the sidebar opens automatically when you navigate to a recognized payer portal. For everyone else, it opens on demand from the toolbar. IRIS — Insurance Reimbursement Intelligence Search Version 1.2 introduces IRIS, a deterministic search interface over BillingBench's verified policy corpus. Typing a denial code, payer name, or plain-language query returns a structured answer drawn directly from the verified data: the regulatory argument, statutory closing demand, source citation, and a link that opens the relevant BillingBench tool with context pre-filled. Every IRIS result cites a primary source. Nothing is generated from language model inference. When the extension detects a recognized payer portal, the search placeholder surfaces the detected payer as a hint so queries can be targeted without retyping the payer name. 835 ERA Detection When the extension detects an ERA download in the browser for accounts with an active Business Associate Agreement, a banner appears in the sidebar with a one-click route to the BillingBench 835 ERA Parser for immediate denied-claim analysis. Session Tracking The Session panel logs denial codes as you work through a remittance, maintaining a running tally of codes, amounts, and decisions for the session. When working inside a recognized portal, the sidebar identifies the payer automatically. For accounts with an active Business Associate Agreement, denial codes can be detected directly from portal page content, pre-filling the session without manual entry. Prior Authorization Documentation The Prior Auth panel surfaces prior authorization documentation requirements by specialty and payer from BillingBench's reference library, which covers 30 specialties across major commercial payers with inline criteria and portal routing information. Prompt Pay Calculator and Timely Filing Lookup The Calc panel covers two related calculations. The prompt pay section computes statutory interest owed on overdue claims under the applicable state statute for all 50 states and DC, producing the exact interest figure and citation for a demand letter. The timely filing section looks up the filing deadline by payer, calculates days remaining from a date of service, and flags claims approaching or past the window. Verified Payer Alerts The Alerts panel displays confirmed payer policy changes from BillingBench's editorial team: prior auth requirement changes, portal routing shifts, and denial pattern updates that affect billing workflow. When the extension detects a payer portal, alerts filter automatically to that payer. Community Intelligence Authenticated BillingBench accounts unlock the Community panel, which surfaces payer behavior reports submitted by billing professionals across the network. Reports are ranked by community affirmation, labeled with the reporter's practice type and region, and filtered to the payer context of the portal you are working in. The Submit tab allows you to file a payer observation directly from the sidebar without navigating away from your work. Account Integration Logging in with a BillingBench account from the sidebar, or from billingbench.com while the extension is installed, syncs your session automatically. A free account is sufficient for the community feed and session saving. A Business Associate Agreement, available at no cost from any account page, enables portal auto-detection and ERA parsing. Portal Support The extension detects and activates inside Availity, Waystar, Office Ally, Change Healthcare, TriZetto, Navicure, Noridian, CGS, WPS, Palmetto GBA, First Coast, Anthem, Optum, Optum Behavioral Health, Florida Blue, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, and NextGen. Optional host permissions are requested per portal so you control which sites the extension can read. BillingBench maintains no affiliate relationships with payers, clearinghouses, or software vendors. The data layer cites every claim to a primary source, and the full methodology is published at billingbench.com/methodology.

BillingBench: Workflow Companion is a sidebar for Chrome that sits next to any payer portal including Availity, Waystar, Change Healthcare, Office Ally, or any system your practice uses. Open a denial, paste the code, and get the reason, the rule behind it, and a recommended next step without switching tabs. No Account required. DENIAL CODE LOOKUP Paste or type any CARC code (CO, PR, OA, or PI) to get a plain-language explanation, the regulatory authority that governs the denial, and a step-by-step decision path to determine whether to appeal, write off, or hold the claim. GUIDED APPEAL WORKFLOW For each code, the extension walks through a short set of questions and returns a specific recommended action. The same logic is used in the BillingBench Denial Decoder at billingbench.com/decoder. SESSION TRACKING Start a session when you open your remit. As you work through each denial, log your decision, the claim amount, and the payer. End the session for a summary showing total claims worked, appeals filed, write-offs taken, and dollars in motion. Sessions are saved locally so you can close Chrome and resume where you left off. PROMPT PAY INTEREST CALCULATOR Enter the date of service, your state, the payer type, and the claim amount to calculate interest owed under state prompt payment law. Covers all 50 states. Distinguishes between commercial insurance, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and self-funded plans. Shows the applicable statute and a day-by-day interest breakdown. PAYER ALERTS Verified payer policy changes and denial pattern shifts appear in the sidebar, filtered to the payer portal you are currently working in. Signed-in BillingBench users can submit new incidents and confirm or dispute existing reports. 835 ERA DETECTION When you download an 835 remittance file while the sidebar is open, the extension prompts you to open the BillingBench ERA Parser. The file is never sent to the extension automatically. You choose whether to open it. NO ACCOUNT REQUIRED Denial lookup, session tracking, and the prompt pay calculator all work without a BillingBench account. Creating a free account adds session export to your BillingBench dashboard so you can track recovery over time by payer and gain access to the community alerts feed. PRIVACY The extension does not read payer portal page content, does not modify portal pages, and does not transmit any data to BillingBench servers unless you are signed in and explicitly end a session. Denial codes and session decisions are stored only in your browser. See billingbench.com/privacy for the full policy. --- BillingBench provides reference information based on published denial code definitions, state statutes, and regulatory guidance. It is not legal, medical, or financial advice. Always verify against current payer documentation and your specific contracts.
