    description
arXiv ↔ alphaXiv Switcher is a productivity tool for researchers and ML practitioners that allows you to switch between standard arXiv paper pages and enhanced readability/discussion platforms (alphaXiv, ar5iv, Semantic Scholar) with a single click.

    Key Features:

    * Manual Switch: Instantly transition between abstract/PDF pages on arXiv and their corresponding versions on alphaXiv, ar5iv, or Semantic Scholar by clicking the extension icon.
    * Dynamic Auto-Redirect: Automatically redirect arXiv pages to your preferred platform as you browse, using native declarative rules for zero-delay performance.
    * Floating Paper Assistant: View comment counts from alphaXiv, direct links to official GitHub code repositories, and copy BibTeX citations instantly without leaving the arXiv abstract page.
    * PDF Smart Renaming: Automatically intercept and rename downloaded arXiv PDFs to a clean, readable format: [Year] - [Author] - [Title].pdf instead of cryptic defaults.
    * Recent History: Keeps a private, local log of your last 20 switched papers so you can quickly jump back to them.
    * Smart Fallback: Detects if alphaXiv hasn't indexed the paper yet (404 check) and displays a notification to gracefully restore the original arXiv URL.

    How to Use:

    1. Navigate to any arXiv abstract or PDF page.
    2. Click the extension toolbar icon to redirect to your preferred destination (alphaXiv by default).
    3. If on a destination page, click the extension icon to return to the original arXiv abstract page.
    4. Right-click the extension icon and select "Options" to enable auto-redirect, toggle individual helper modules, or customize your preferred destination.

Privacy & Consent: This extension respects user privacy. It collects anonymous telemetry to count successful switches and detect broken redirects, allowing the developer to maintain compatibility if platforms change their URL layout. Telemetry is enabled by default (opt-out) and can be fully disabled in the options page. We collect NO page titles, paper IDs, URLs, or personal data.
Reading papers on arXiv? Switch any abstract or PDF to alphaXiv discussions, ar5iv / arXiv HTML, or Semantic Scholar in one click (or Alt+Shift+X) — and download PDFs named "2017 - Vaswani - Attention Is All You Need.pdf" instead of 1706.03762.pdf. No account, anonymous opt-out analytics, minimal footprint.

    Key Features:

    * Manual Switch: Instantly transition between abstract/PDF pages on arXiv and their corresponding versions on alphaXiv, ar5iv, or Semantic Scholar by clicking the extension icon.
Keyboard Shortcut: Use Alt+Shift+X to switch the current paper without reaching for the toolbar icon.
    * Read as HTML: One click to arXiv's native HTML (or ar5iv) — ideal for accessibility and for bilingual translation tools that garble PDF formulas.
    * Dynamic Auto-Redirect: Automatically redirect arXiv pages to your preferred platform as you browse, using native declarative rules for zero-delay performance.
    * Paper Tools (on by default, fully disableable): A compact action row on arXiv pages for alphaXiv, ar5iv HTML, citation copying (BibTeX/Markdown/ID), explicit GitHub code search, Save, and discussion/citation discovery.
    * Share Card: Copy a clean, link-unfurling card for Bluesky / X / Slack in one click.
    * Clean Tab Titles + PDF Smart Renaming: Show paper titles in arXiv abstract/PDF browser tabs and rename downloaded PDFs to "Year - Author - Title" using arXiv's own metadata, so it works even when third-party APIs are rate-limited (PDF tab renaming works even inside Chrome's built-in PDF viewer). Power users can set a custom filename template ({year}/{author}/{title}/{id}) and even save into a subfolder.Recent History: Keeps a private, local log of your last 20 switched papers so you can quickly jump back to them.
    * Smart Fallback: Detects if alphaXiv hasn't indexed the paper yet (404 check) and displays a notification to gracefully restore the original arXiv URL.

    How to Use:

Privacy & Consent: This extension respects user privacy. It collects anonymous telemetry to count successful switches and detect broken redirects, allowing the developer to maintain compatibility if platforms change their URL layout. Telemetry is enabled by default (opt-out) and can be fully disabled in the options page. We collect NO page titles, paper IDs, URLs, or personal data in analytics.

Permissions are requested at install so all default-on features work immediately. Every feature is fully disableable in Options, and you can additionally restrict the extension's site access from chrome://extensions — when a host is restricted, the matching feature degrades quietly instead of erroring. Paper-specific lookups (alphaXiv discussion counts, Semantic Scholar citation/venue) run only when their toggle is on, and each clearly states what is sent. Tab and PDF naming use arXiv's own metadata and make no third-party calls.

Support & Feedback: If you encounter a broken switch or have feature requests, please submit an issue at our public feedback repository: https://github.com/JingzhengQin/arxiv-to-alphaxiv-feedback.

arXiv Companion is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by arXiv (Cornell University) or alphaXiv. "arXiv" and "alphaXiv" are referenced only to describe where the extension can take you.
