ChatGPT Markdown Exporter helps you save ChatGPT conversations and ChatGPT Project threads as clean Markdown files.

Use it when you want to preserve research, archive useful chats, move conversations into a knowledge base, prepare notes for documentation, or estimate how large a conversation is before reusing it in another AI workflow.

The extension is designed for users who regularly use ChatGPT for research, software development, writing, legal research, business planning, technical documentation, prompt engineering, and project organization.

Token estimates are generated locally using a lightweight heuristic. They are useful for rough context-window planning, compression planning, and export sizing. They are not exact model-tokenizer counts and should not be used for billing.

Privacy:

ChatGPT Markdown Exporter does not send your conversation content to an external server. It runs in the active ChatGPT tab and downloads Markdown files locally through your browser.

Important note:

This extension requires you to be logged into ChatGPT in your browser. It works with ChatGPT pages and uses the active browser session to access the conversations you already have permission to view.
