FakeAlertBlocker – Tech Support Scam Blocker

FakeAlertBlocker protects you and your family from tech support scam pages — the fake "Your computer is infected!" pop-ups designed to lock your browser, frighten you into calling a fraudulent phone number, and steal your money.

How it works

The moment you land on a scam page, FakeAlertBlocker detects it using behavioral and content analysis — looking for browser-locking scripts, fake virus warnings, suspicious overlays, and scam phrases. Before any malicious code can run, the extension neutralizes common scam tactics like browser lock loops, dialog spam, and forced fullscreen. A rescue banner appears at the top of the page, your controls are immediately restored, and you're automatically navigated away to safety within seconds.

⌨️ Emergency escape — Press Ctrl+Shift+X at any time to force-unlock your browser and leave the page

🛡️ Ad-block wall & paywall bypass — Automatically closes ad-block nag screens, paywall pop-ups, and newsletter sign-up overlays

🚫 Network-level ad blocking — Blocks known scam-associated URLs and ad networks using Chrome's declarative network request rules

✅ False positive protection — Whitelist any site with one click if it's flagged incorrectly; it will never be flagged again

📢 Community reporting — Optionally report scam pages and false positives to help improve detection for everyone

Your privacy

FakeAlertBlocker does not track your browsing history, sell your data, or transmit any personal information. Anonymous detection reports (URL + signals) are only sent with your explicit permission and can be disabled at any time in settings.

Work in Progress

This is a personal project under active development. New features, UI improvements, and detection improvements are added regularly. If something breaks or you have a suggestion, please leave a review or report an issue — it genuinely helps.

The most dangerous threats online aren't viruses — they're pages designed to terrify you into calling a fake "Microsoft" or "Apple" helpline. These pages fake system alerts, lock your browser, and blast alarms to pressure you into handing over money or remote access to your computer.

FakeAlertBlocker detects these pages the moment they load. It unlocks your browser, alerts you with a clear warning, and can automatically navigate you away to safety. A red badge appears on the extension icon so you always know what's happening.

🛡️ Ad-Wall & Popup Blocker
Tired of pages that won't let you read an article until you dismiss three popups? FakeAlertBlocker automatically handles:

Any popup that tries to trap you on a page

The number of popups blocked on the current page is shown live on the extension icon, so you can see it working in real time.

⬇️ Fake Download Button Detection
On software download sites, the real download button is often the smallest, plainest one on the page — surrounded by huge, colourful "DOWNLOAD NOW" buttons that are actually ads leading to unwanted software. FakeAlertBlocker scans the page, outlines the suspicious buttons in red and amber, and puts a warning banner at the bottom of the screen so you know exactly which button to trust.

🍪 Automatic Cookie Consent
Cookie banners are designed to make "Accept All" the easiest option. FakeAlertBlocker automatically selects the most privacy-friendly option on cookie consent banners so you never have to think about them again.

🔔 Notification Permission Blocking
Sites aggressively prompt you to allow browser notifications as a way to run ads directly on your desktop. FakeAlertBlocker blocks these prompts before they appear.

🎣 Phishing Page Detection
FakeAlertBlocker checks pages for phishing signals — lookalike login pages, credential-harvesting forms, and deceptive redirects — and warns you before you enter any information.

📊 Live Ad Block Counter
The extension icon badge shows a live count of ads blocked on the current page, updated instantly as you browse — no need to open the extension to see it working.

🔍 Search Ad Filtering
Sponsored results at the top of Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Ecosia, and Brave Search are filtered out, so your search results show organic links first.

✅ Global Safe-Site Whitelist
FakeAlertBlocker maintains a community-curated list of trusted domains that is synced automatically every 6 hours. You can also add your own trusted sites directly from the extension popup, with per-site controls to turn popup blocking on or off for any domain.

🔒 Privacy First
FakeAlertBlocker does not sell your data, does not run ads, and does not track your browsing history. When scam or adwall reports are sent to help improve detection, this is entirely opt-out — you can disable reporting at any time in Settings. All processing happens locally in your browser.
