About

FactCheck Live adds a real-time fact-checking sidebar to the videos you already watch on YouTube and X (Twitter). As a video plays, it picks up the factual claims being made, checks them against trusted sources, and shows you a clear verdict — so you can tell what's solid from what's shaky without leaving the page.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Open a YouTube video (regular, Shorts, or a live stream) or a video on X.
2. Click the FactCheck Live icon and hit "Start Checking."
3. A sidebar opens next to the player and fills with claims as they're spoken — each with a verdict, a confidence score, and the sources behind it.

VERDICTS AT A GLANCE
• Verified — supported by trusted sources (green)
• False / Misleading — contradicted by the evidence (red)
• Not verified — no reliable support found (amber)
• Checking… — verification still in progress

BUILT FOR HOW YOU ACTUALLY WATCH
• Recorded videos: the sidebar stays in sync with the playhead. The claim being spoken is highlighted, and you can click any claim to jump straight to that moment in the video.
• Live streams: audio is checked on the fly, so verdicts appear seconds after a claim is made.
• Shorts and clips: short-form videos are checked the same way.

EVERY VERDICT LINKS OUT
No black boxes. Each checked claim lists the sources used to reach the verdict, so you can open them and judge for yourself.

WORKS ON
• youtube.com — watch pages, Shorts, and live streams
• x.com / twitter.com — videos in your feed

WHY IT'S USEFUL
Misinformation spreads fastest in video, where claims fly by too quickly to check. FactCheck Live does the checking in the background while you watch, surfacing the claims worth a second look and pointing you to the evidence — for news, debates, commentary, and viral clips alike.

PRIVACY
When you start a session, FactCheck Live sends only the link of the video you're watching to its companion FactCheck service, which transcribes that public video, extracts the factual claims, and checks them against trusted sources. The extension does not record your screen, microphone, or audio, does not read your activity on other websites, and only stores the current session's status (whether it's active and how many claims were found) in your browser — cleared when you stop checking or close the tab. Video links, transcripts, and verified claims are processed on the FactCheck service; see our privacy policy for the providers used and how long data is retained.

Note: FactCheck Live needs its companion FactCheck service running to transcribe and verify claims. No account or sign-in is required.
