About

Stop switching tabs. Start writing.

TopShelf is a side panel that sits beside your browser while you write. Pin source articles, read them in a clean distraction-free view, and save the best parts — all without leaving your writing tab.

Here's how it works:

You're writing a blog post with 8 sources open. Instead of tabbing back and forth, you pin them all to TopShelf. The panel gives you a clean reader for each article — no ads, no clutter, just the content. When you find a great quote or stat, highlight it and save it. TopShelf remembers which source it came from, so you never lose an attribution again.

Once you've gathered enough highlights, one click turns them into a structured writing outline — grouped by source, ready to export as Markdown and paste into your editor.

The panel adapts as you work:

→ Collect — Pin articles from any tab to your research shelf
→ Read — Clean, ad-free reader view powered by Mozilla Readability
→ Clip — Highlight text and save it with automatic source citations
→ Outline — Generate a writing outline from your clips, then export it

Built for people who write from sources every day:

• Content writers referencing multiple articles per piece
• SEO writers pulling stats and quotes from research
• Bloggers organizing ideas from scattered tabs
• Students and researchers collecting notes across sources
• Marketers drafting copy backed by data

Features:

• Side panel reader — Readable article view beside your writing, scroll position saved
• Cite & paste — One click copies highlighted text with source attribution
• Research sessions — Save source groups per project, pick up where you left off
• Clips collection — Your highlights build a smart swipe file as you read
• Outline generator — Clips organize into a structured outline, exportable as Markdown
• Keyboard shortcuts — ⌘⇧L to pin a page, ⌘⇧C to cite, ⌘⇧P to open the panel
• Right-click to clip — Save any selected text from any page to your clips
• Dark mode — Follows your system preference

Privacy:

TopShelf stores everything locally on your device. No accounts, no cloud, no analytics, no tracking. The only network requests are to load pages you choose to pin.

Your sources. Your outline. Your shelf.
