  Searching the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) eSearch plus database comes with a very specific frustration: standard EU trade marks are strictly 9 digits long and almost always start with a zero (e.g., “018115535”). However, emails, PDFs, and law firm docketing systems frequently drop that leading zero (e.g., “18115535”). If you paste the 8-digit version into the EUIPO portal, the system returns an error.
