About
AI Trust Guardian verifies scholarly references instantly — right in your browser. Paste your BibTeX, select text on any page, or scan an entire document to check every citation against Crossref, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, arXiv, and PubMed.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Copy your references from Overleaf, Google Docs, ChatGPT, Word, or any source
2. Paste them into the extension or select text on any webpage
3. Every reference is checked against 5 scholarly databases simultaneously
4. See a side-by-side comparison of your citation vs the verified record
5. Export all corrected references in your preferred format
WHAT IT DETECTS
• Fabricated references — papers that don't exist in any scholarly database
• Author mismatches — correct title but wrong authors (common in AI-generated text)
• Year and venue errors — online-first vs print dates, abbreviated journal names
• Page and volume mismatches — incorrect pagination or volume numbers
• DOI discrepancies — missing or incorrect DOIs
SMART VERIFICATION FEATURES
• Journal abbreviation matching — "J Compos Constr" correctly matches "Journal of Composites for Construction"
• Year ±1 tolerance — online-first vs print date differences flagged as informational, not errors
• Multi-word surname handling — "Zaker Esteghamati, Mohsen" correctly matches "Mohsen Zaker Esteghamati"
• Preprint vs published detection — arXiv versions recognized when you cite the journal publication
• BibTeX brace and escape handling — {BERT} and DOI backslash escapes processed correctly
• Multi-line reference parsing — author, title, and venue on separate lines parsed as one reference
• Rich metadata heuristic — papers with detailed authors, venue, year, and pages recognized as likely real even when not indexed by free APIs
SIDE-BY-SIDE COMPARISON
Every verified reference shows your citation alongside the database record. Mismatched fields are highlighted — red for your value, green for the verified value. See exactly what differs at a glance.
7 EXPORT FORMATS
Export all verified and corrected references in one click:
• BibTeX (.bib)
• RIS (.ris)
• APA
• IEEE
• Chicago
• MLA
• EndNote
Plus JSON data export and a human-readable report.
INCLUDE IN EXPORT
Flagged references have an "Include in export" button. Click it to add the corrected version to your batch export alongside all verified references.
MULTIPLE WAYS TO SCAN
• Paste & Scan — paste your .bib file or any reference list
• Scan Selection — select text on any page and scan
• Scan Page — scan the entire visible page for references
• Right-Click Menu — right-click any text or the shield icon
• Keyboard Shortcut — Ctrl+Shift+S (Cmd+Shift+S on Mac)
DOCKABLE PANEL
Choose how the panel appears: floating overlay, docked left, docked right, or full-width bar. The shield icon snaps to the left or right edge of your screen.
PRIVACY FIRST
• Everything runs in your browser — no backend server
• No data sent to any external server beyond the scholarly APIs
• No account or API key required
• No tracking, analytics, or data collection
• Your references never leave your device
• Only public scholarly APIs are queried (Crossref, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, arXiv, PubMed)
WORKS EVERYWHERE
Overleaf, Google Docs, ChatGPT, Claude, arXiv, publisher websites, and any webpage with references.
IDEAL FOR
• Researchers checking AI-generated reference lists
• Students verifying citations before submission
• Journal editors and peer reviewers
• Anyone working with scholarly referencesTechnical
