About
You have two Gmail accounts. Maybe three. A personal one, a work one, and one for that side project you started last year. Switching between them in Gmail means clicking your profile photo, waiting for the account menu to load, finding the right account in a dropdown, clicking it, waiting for the page to reload. Four clicks and a wait, every single time. If you switch accounts 10 times a day, that is 40 clicks and 10 page loads you did not need. Gmail was not built for people who use multiple accounts. The account switcher is buried behind a profile photo in the corner. There is no keyboard shortcut. There is no quick-switch button. Just a slow, multi-step process hidden behind a tiny avatar. This extension puts a one-click account switcher right on the page. A floating button in the corner. Click it, see your accounts, pick one. Done. WHY SWITCHING GMAIL ACCOUNTS IS SO SLOW Google designed the account switcher for people who rarely switch. It works, but it is optimized for simplicity rather than speed: - The profile photo that opens the switcher is small and tucked in the top right corner. It is easy to miss, especially if you are focused on your inbox. - The account menu takes time to load. Google fetches account data every time you open it, so there is a visible delay. - The dropdown shows account details, storage usage, and settings links before the account list. You have to scroll or scan past information you do not need. - After clicking an account, the entire page reloads. If you were in the middle of reading an email, you lose your place. For people who switch accounts frequently - freelancers managing client emails, professionals with work and personal accounts, developers testing with multiple accounts - this adds up to a real time cost. This extension removes the friction by giving you a dedicated, always-visible switcher. WHAT THIS EXTENSION DOES Account Switcher for Gmail adds a floating button to the Gmail interface. Click it, and a compact panel appears showing all your signed-in Gmail accounts. Click any account to switch instantly. Here is what you get: One-Click Panel - A floating button sits in the bottom-right corner of Gmail. Click it to open a clean account list panel. No profile photos to hunt for, no menus to navigate. Account Detection - The extension detects your signed-in Gmail accounts from the page DOM. Each account shows with its email address and a colored avatar. The currently active account is highlighted with an "Active" badge. Instant Navigation - Click any account to switch. The extension navigates directly to the right Gmail URL (/mail/u/0/, /mail/u/1/, etc.). No intermediate Google pages, no extra clicks. Add Account - A "+ Add another account" button at the bottom of the panel opens Google's account sign-in flow in a new tab, so you can add a new account without leaving Gmail. Escape to Close - Press Escape or click outside the panel to dismiss it. Clean, fast, no clutter. Visual Identity - Each account gets a consistent color from a 6-color palette, so you can visually identify accounts at a glance without reading the full email address. Always Available - The button stays visible as you navigate Gmail. Whether you are in your inbox, reading an email, composing a message, or browsing labels, the switcher is always one click away. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install the extension. No sign-in, no setup. 2. Open Gmail in your browser. The amber floating button appears in the bottom right. 3. Click the button. Your accounts appear in a panel. 4. Click any account to switch. Gmail loads that account. That is it. One button, one click, one switch. WHY A DEDICATED SWITCHER MATTERS If you only use one Gmail account, you do not need this. But if you use two or more, you know the pain: - Freelancers check client inboxes multiple times per day alongside their personal email. - Developers test email-based features with different accounts. - Small business owners separate business and personal communication. - Students manage university and personal accounts. - Families share a computer and each person has their own Gmail. The built-in Gmail switcher works, but it was not designed for frequent switching. This extension is. REAL SCENARIOS WHERE THIS HELPS Freelancer workflow: You manage three clients, each with their own email thread in different Gmail accounts. Throughout the day, you switch between accounts 15-20 times. With the built-in switcher, that is 60-80 clicks. With this extension, it is 30-40. Half the effort. Work and personal: Your work email runs on Google Workspace. Your personal email is a regular Gmail. You switch between them every time you need to check something personal during work, or something work-related after hours. The floating button makes this a one-second operation. Testing and development: You are building an app that sends emails. You have a sender account and a receiver account. You switch between them constantly to test. The quick switcher saves you 10+ seconds per switch, which adds up during a debugging session. Shared computer: Multiple family members use the same Chrome browser. Each has their own Gmail logged in. The switcher lets anyone jump to their account without the multi-step Google profile process. Side project management: You have a personal email, a work email, and a side project email. The switcher shows all three. You never need to remember which /u/ number belongs to which account. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS WHAT THIS EXTENSION DOES NOT DO - Does not require any login or sign-in. - Does not access Gmail API or request OAuth tokens. - Does not read your email content. - Does not store account credentials or email addresses. - Does not make any network requests to external servers. - Does not track usage, run analytics, or share data with third parties. The only permission it needs: - storage - To remember whether you want the floating button visible or hidden. That is the only thing stored. Account detection works by reading publicly visible elements on the Gmail page (profile links, email attributes). No private data is accessed or stored. FREE AND UNLIMITED No account required. No trial period. No feature limits. No premium tier. Install it. Switch accounts. That is the deal. WHO THIS IS FOR - Freelancers and consultants who manage multiple client Gmail accounts - Professionals who switch between work and personal Gmail throughout the day - Developers who test with multiple accounts - Students balancing university and personal email - Anyone signed into 2+ Gmail accounts who wants faster switching - Small business owners with separate business and personal inboxes GETTING STARTED Install the extension. Open Gmail. Click the amber button. Pick your account. No account. No login. No configuration. Just faster switching between the Gmail accounts you already use.
