About
Specsnag adds report generation functionality to any vehicle listing across popular car marketplaces and dealership websites. When you click the button, the vehicle information is loaded by specsnag.com, which automatically builds a detailed report on that exact car; analysing thousands of data points. Each report gives a structured overview of the exact make, model, milage, year and condition of the vehicle you're viewing — including specifications, common issues, and things worth checking before you buy. It’s a simple way to understand what’s behind the listing, based on real-world data rather than just the seller’s description. 🚗 What it does When you open a car listing, the extension detects the page and places a small “Generate Report” button on it. Clicking the button opens a new browser tab with a Specsnag report for that car. The report is generated automatically and includes facts, known issues, and inspection guidance based on the model and year. You don’t need to sign up or create an account. It just works when you click. 📄 What’s in a Specsnag report Each report includes a breakdown of the vehicle’s key details, so you can quickly see what you’re dealing with. That includes the make and model, year, engine and fuel type, main specifications, known faults, and inspection advice. It may also show ownership patterns, maintenance points, and reliability notes that help you make a better-informed decision. Example report: https://specsnag.com/report/901f6add-e3ba-4aa1-a2a2-ed67baa3a698 🔍 Why it’s useful When you’re looking for a used car, listings often miss the most important information. You might see a few photos and the price, but not what’s likely to go wrong, or what to look for when viewing it. This extension fills that gap by connecting listings directly to structured reports. It helps you compare different cars more clearly, spot red flags, and prepare questions for the seller or your mechanic. You don’t have to guess what’s typical for that model — you can see data that shows it. 🧠 How it helps If you’re buying privately, comparing different options, or just curious about a specific model, Specsnag reports give you a reliable reference. They bring together key facts, technical data, and known ownership patterns into a single page that’s easy to read and share. It’s designed to make research factual and straightforward — not to influence your choice or promote any brand. 🛠️ Privacy and permissions The extension only reads the current vehicle page you’re viewing. When you click the “Generate Report” button, it sends that page’s URL to specsnag.com so the report can be built. No personal data is collected, stored, or shared by the extension. You can disable or remove it at any time through Chrome’s Extensions menu. 🌍 Supported websites The button appears automatically on most structured car listing sites, such as Auto Trader, eBay Motors, Motors.co.uk, CarGurus, and major dealership sites. Support will expand over time. If you find a site where the button doesn’t appear, you can right click to add the site to Specsnag's whitelist. If you still don't see a button, you can copy the link into specsnag.com manually and get the same report. ⚙️ How to use it 1️⃣ Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store 2️⃣ Open a vehicle listing page 3️⃣ Look for the “Generate Report” button 4️⃣ Click it! 5️⃣ A new tab opens with your full report No setup, no account, no extra steps. 👥 Who it’s for People buying used cars who want to understand what they’re really looking at. Dealers who compare model reliability. Car reviewers and enthusiasts who research specs and common faults. Anyone who prefers facts over marketing. 📈 Example use You’re viewing a listing for a 2018 BMW 320d. Click “Generate Report” and specsnag opens a page showing details about that model — its specs, known problems like EGR recalls or timing chain issues, and what to check when inspecting it. It gives you the technical picture behind the advert so you can make a confident decision. 🔧 Design and updates The extension is intentionally minimal — no ads, tracking, or layout changes. It adds one button, performs one action, and stays out of your way. Future updates may include wider site support, summary previews, and regional data options. 💬 Chat with the car’s AI assistant Each report also includes an interactive chat powered by AI, trained on verified data about the vehicle you’re viewing. You can ask it anything - from technical questions like “Is this engine chain- or belt-driven?” to practical advice such as “What should I check before a test drive?” The AI assistant understands the full context of the report and can explain specs, clarify issues, or help you compare similar models. It’s like having an expert mechanic and researcher on hand, ready to answer questions instantly - all within the same report page. ✅ In summary Specsnag connects car listings with reliable vehicle data. When you see a car you’re interested in, click the button and open a report that tells you what’s really worth knowing — specs, issues, and inspection advice — all in one place.
