About

Hello fellow researchers and students from Université Paris-Saclay !

Maybe you sometimes stumble across a scientific paper that you should be able to consult by logging through Université Paris-Saclay's SSO. Unfortunately, more often than not something is not working out on the authentification side and you cannot access the paper's full text (even though the University HAS a subscription to the journal). A solution has always been to directly open the journal through Focus, the library website of Université Paris-Saclay: https://www.bibliotheques.universite-paris-saclay.fr/
While this solution is working fine, it is time consuming and frustrating. So let's make this process automatic !

Here is an explanation of how Focus gives you full access to scientific journals with an exemple: I want to read a paper in Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology (from Elsevier). The original URL is https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1050641122000979 . Finding and opening the journal via focus will transform the URL into https://www-sciencedirect-com.ezproxy.universite-paris-saclay.fr/science/article/pii/S1050641122000979 . Notice that "www.sciencedirect.com" was transformed into "www-sciencedirect-com" and ".ezproxy.universite-paris-saclay.fr" was added after. Well that is basically it! This extension replaces "." by "-" in the host and adds ".ezproxy.universite-paris-saclay.fr".

How to use it? Simply go to the scientific paper's page and click on the extension icon. You may have to authenticate through the University's SSO depending if you open the page from home or from your lab.

Will it work for every journals? I have no idea! I tested it mainly on science direct and IEEE.

Can I see the source code? Of course! Here is the gitlab project: https://gitlab.dsi.universite-paris-saclay.fr/lucas.quesada/focus-it . You can directly download the code from there and package the extension in Google Chrome.
