StraightFacts transforms any YouTube video into a clean, structured summary directly inside your browser — no tab switching, no copy-pasting, no fluff.

HOW IT WORKS
Click the StraightFacts icon on any YouTube video and a sidebar opens alongside the player. Choose your summary format, set your preferred length, and hit Generate. StraightFacts fetches the video transcript, sends it to Google Gemini (using your own free API key), and returns a formatted summary in seconds.

FOUR SUMMARY MODES
• Neutral — Flowing prose paragraphs. Great for a balanced overview of any topic.
• Tutorial — Step-by-step breakdowns with numbered sections. Ideal for how-to videos and courses.
• Facts — Category headings with bullet lists. Perfect for research, interviews, and data-heavy content.
• Article — A full editorial piece with title, subtitle, and structured sections. Best for talks and long-form content.

SMART LENGTH CONTROL
Use the length slider to target your summary in percentage, sentences, words, or characters. StraightFacts calibrates the slider to the actual transcript length so your target is always meaningful.

SPENDING MODES
Control exactly how much of the transcript is sent to the AI to manage your API usage:
• Quick (~5 min videos)
• Standard (~30 min videos)
• Extended (~1 hour videos)
• Podcast (~3 hour videos)
• Full Transcript (no limits)

VISUAL TIMESTAMPS
Enable Visual Timestamps to see [MM:SS] markers embedded in your summary, so you can jump directly to the relevant moment in the video.

SAVE & ORGANIZE
Save any summary to a custom folder. Rename folders, reassign summaries, and search across everything you've saved. Your last 20 generations are also kept in Recent for quick access.

PERSONAL NOTES
Every summary comes with a dedicated notes field. Jot down takeaways, action items, or follow-up questions — stored privately in your browser.

FULLY LOCAL & PRIVATE
StraightFacts is a serverless extension. Your API key, summaries, notes, and settings are stored exclusively in your local browser storage (chrome.storage.local). Nothing is sent to any third-party server. No accounts, no tracking, no data collection.

REQUIREMENTS
A free Google Gemini API key from Google AI Studio (aistudio.google.com). The free tier is sufficient for everyday use.

SINGLE PURPOSE
StraightFacts has one job: summarize YouTube videos. It does nothing on any other website and requests only the permissions it needs to do that job.
