About

BrainDump — Your Personal Knowledge Vault

Save what matters. Surface what's relevant. Never lose a great idea again.

BrainDump is a lightweight Chrome extension that turns the web into your personal reading archive. Whenever you find a sentence, paragraph, or idea worth keeping — highlight it, save it, and BrainDump quietly stores it in your personal vault. No account. No cloud. No subscription. Everything lives in your browser, privately and permanently.

──────────────────────────────────────
HOW IT WORKS
──────────────────────────────────────

1. SELECT any text on any webpage
A small "Save" button appears near your cursor the moment you highlight text. One click saves it instantly.

2. SAVE in one click
BrainDump captures the text, the page title, the source URL, the domain, the favicon, and the timestamp — automatically. It also extracts keywords from the content and tags the highlight for you. No manual tagging needed.

3. BROWSE your vault
Open the BrainDump popup from your browser toolbar to see all your saved highlights, newest first. Search by keyword, filter by topic tag, or scroll through your full archive.

4. DISCOVER connections
Every time you visit a new page, BrainDump scans your saved highlights and checks for topical overlap. If related highlights exist, a badge appears on the extension icon showing the count. Open the popup to see which past highlights relate to what you're reading right now.

FEATURES
──────────────────────────────────────

★ Floating Save Button
Select any text longer than 20 characters on any webpage and a discreet save button appears near your cursor. Click it and the highlight is saved instantly with a "Saved to vault" confirmation.

★ Right-Click Context Menu
Prefer using the right-click menu? BrainDump adds a "Save to BrainDump" option to your browser's context menu whenever you have text selected. Works exactly the same as the floating button.

★ Auto-Tagging
BrainDump automatically extracts the most relevant keywords from your highlighted text and the page title. These become your topic tags — no manual input required. Tags are displayed on each card and can be used to filter your vault.

★ Related Highlights Detection
BrainDump compares every page you visit against your saved highlights using keyword overlap and domain matching. When it finds connections, it shows a badge count on the extension icon and a notice inside the popup. This is how your vault becomes more valuable over time — it connects ideas across different sources automatically.

★ Instant Search
Type in the search bar to filter your highlights in real time. Searches across the highlighted text, page titles, and tags simultaneously.

★ Topic Filters
All auto-generated tags appear as filterable pill buttons at the top of your vault. Click any topic to see only highlights from that category. Click "All" to return to the full view.

★ Detail View
Click any highlight card to open a full detail panel showing:
- The complete highlighted text
- The source URL (clickable)
- The save date and time
- All topic tags
- Action buttons: Copy, Open source, Remove

★ Copy to Clipboard
One click copies the full text of any highlight to your clipboard — ready to paste into notes, documents, or messages.

★ Open Source Page
Jump directly to the original webpage where a highlight was saved, opened in a new tab.

★ Export as JSON
Export your entire vault as a structured JSON file. Your data, your format, yours to keep. Import it into any notes app, database, or spreadsheet.

★ Duplicate Prevention
BrainDump silently ignores duplicate saves. If you try to save text you've already saved, it skips it without any error or interruption.

──────────────────────────────────────
PRIVACY — 100% LOCAL STORAGE
──────────────────────────────────────

BrainDump is built with privacy as a first principle, not an afterthought.

✓ No account required — ever
✓ No sign-in, no email, no profile
✓ No data sent to any server
✓ No analytics or tracking of any kind
✓ No third-party services
✓ Everything stored locally using Chrome's built-in storage API
✓ Your highlights never leave your browser

BrainDump cannot see your highlights. Nobody can. They exist only on your device, under your control.

──────────────────────────────────────
WHO IS BRAINDUMP FOR?
──────────────────────────────────────

BrainDump is built for people who read a lot online and want to retain more of what they find.

→ Researchers and academics who gather sources across dozens of tabs
→ Writers who collect reference material and need to resurface it
→ Students who read articles, papers, and documentation
→ Professionals who stay current with industry news and want to build a reference library
→ Curious people who explore widely and want their reading to compound over time

If you've ever thought "I read something about this recently — where was that?" — BrainDump is the answer.

──────────────────────────────────────
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
──────────────────────────────────────

BrainDump is deliberately minimal. It does one thing and does it well: it saves your highlights and helps you find connections between them.

The interface is clean and editorial — designed to feel like a premium analog tool rather than another SaaS product. No purple gradients. No onboarding modals. No feature bloat. Just your words, organized and waiting for you.

──────────────────────────────────────
PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED
──────────────────────────────────────

BrainDump requests only the permissions it needs:

• storage — to save and read your highlights locally
• activeTab — to read the URL and title of the current page for saving and matching
• scripting — to inject the save button on web pages
• contextMenus — to add "Save to BrainDump" to the right-click menu
• tabs — to check the current tab's URL when the popup is opened

No browsing history access. No ability to read your full page content beyond what you explicitly select and save.

──────────────────────────────────────
