Changelog
- May 26, 2026description
grip duck makes you a better problem-solver, not a faster cheater. It's a Socratic AI coaching overlay for LeetCode. Before you write a single line of code, you have to type out your approach in plain English — the editor stays locked until you do. Then the duck asks one targeted question at a time (no answers, no code), the way a real interviewer would. After you submit, you get a structured debrief: which approach you used, what an interviewer would suggest instead, and the one thing to consider next time. WHY THIS EXISTS Most LeetCode tools either give you the answer or rate your speed. Neither builds the skill that actually matters in interviews — the ability to think out loud about an unfamiliar problem. grip duck blocks that shortcut. You can't see the editor until you've articulated an approach. The duck never gives you the algorithm. Five exchanges in, it firmly tells you to stop talking and code. WHAT YOU GET • Approach gate — code editor is dimmed until you write your approach (problem description stays readable) • Socratic nudges — the duck asks questions, never answers • AI debrief on every submission — Approach / Efficiency / Code Style verdict + the optimal approach • Runtime + Memory beats data, when LeetCode shows it • Works on every LeetCode problem language BRING YOUR OWN KEY Pick the LLM you trust: • Anthropic (Claude) — recommended, prompts are tuned for it • OpenAI (GPT) • Google (Gemini) Your API key is stored locally in your browser only. The extension makes direct HTTPS calls to your chosen provider — there is no grip duck server in the middle. No telemetry, no analytics, no third-party tracking. PRIVACY • Your API key never leaves your device except in calls to your chosen provider • Problem text + your code go only to that provider • No telemetry, no analytics, no third-party servers • Full privacy policy: https://www.gripit.dev/extension/privacy WHO IT'S FOR Software engineers preparing for technical interviews who want to actually build the skill, not just pattern-match. ABOUT GRIP grip is a spaced-repetition interview prep system at gripit.dev. The duck started as a feature inside the grip web app — this extension brings the same coaching to your existing LeetCode flow.
grip duck is a Socratic AI coach for LeetCode that makes you a better problem-solver, not a faster cheater. It locks the code editor until you explain your approach in plain English. Then it asks one interviewer-style question at a time, never the answer, never the algorithm. After you submit, you get a structured debrief so you actually learn from the problem instead of moving on to the next one. Built for engineers grinding LeetCode for coding interviews and DSA practice who want to build real problem-solving skill, not just pattern-match their way to a green checkmark. Why it works? The hardest part of a real coding interview isn't writing the code - it's reasoning out loud about a problem you've never seen before, while someone watches. Most LeetCode tools skip straight to hints or solutions, so you never rehearse that. grip duck makes you do it on every single problem: state an approach, defend it under questioning, then review what an interviewer would have pushed back on. That is the rep that transfers to the actual interview room. What you get: • Approach gate - the editor stays dimmed until you write your approach in plain English, so you can't shortcut straight to code (the problem statement stays fully readable) • Socratic nudges - the duck asks one pointed question at a time and never hands you the answer, the way a strong interviewer probes your thinking • Debrief on every submission - a clear Approach / Efficiency / Code Style verdict plus the optimal approach and the one idea to take into the next problem • Runtime + memory "beats" stats surfaced inline, when LeetCode shows them • Works on every LeetCode problem, in every language LeetCode supports Bring your own key: Pick the model you trust: Anthropic Claude (recommended; the prompts are tuned for it), OpenAI GPT, or Google Gemini. Your key is stored locally in your browser and used to call that provider directly. There is no grip duck server in the middle, so your practice stays between you and the model you chose.
