About
Salesforce Metadata Downloader pulls a complete, verified copy of a Salesforce org's metadata into a single zip file — using the Salesforce session you're already logged into. No Salesforce CLI, no Connected App, no OAuth setup, no backend service. WHO IT'S FOR Admins and consultants who need a fast, no-setup metadata snapshot or backup. Client teams who've been asked to hand their org's metadata to a consulting partner for an architecture review or technical-debt assessment, without learning developer tooling. WHAT IT DOES - Estimate size (pre-flight) — a read-only, few-second scan that counts every component in the org and reports an estimated file count against Salesforce's 10,000-file retrieve ceiling, before you download anything. - Retrieve unmanaged metadata — downloads the org's own metadata (objects, Apex, Lightning components, flows, layouts, profiles, reports, and more) as one merged zip in the standard Salesforce Metadata API format, ready for the Salesforce CLI or any metadata-analysis tool. HOW IT WORKS The extension reads the Salesforce session cookie already in your browser (the same technique tools like Salesforce Inspector use) and talks directly to your org's Metadata API. Large orgs are automatically split into sub-10,000-file chunks and merged back into a single zip. After every run, a built-in completeness check compares what was requested against what actually came back and flags any shortfall — so silent gaps in the export don't go unnoticed. Retrieves run in the background: close the popup and keep working, and you'll get a desktop notification with the finished zip in your Downloads folder. PRIVACY Nothing leaves your computer except direct calls to your own Salesforce org. There's no backend server, no account, no analytics, and no data sent to the developer or any third party. See the full privacy policy linked on this listing. LIMITATIONS - Exports unmanaged (the org's own) metadata — managed-package internals (e.g. CPQ, Certinia) can't be retrieved by any tool, but the installed- package inventory is included. - Personal/private folder items (reports, dashboards, email templates) aren't retrievable by any metadata tool — a Salesforce limitation. - Your Salesforce user needs the "API Enabled" permission.
