About

Threadport turns the AI conversation in your browser into structured context the AI in your IDE can actually use.

THE PROBLEM
You start a thread on ChatGPT or Claude.ai. You think out loud. You disagree, push back, change direction. Halfway through, you switch to Cursor or Claude Desktop to keep building — and you're back to copy-pasting transcripts. The IDE-side AI re-asks questions you already answered, repeats decisions you already made, and helpfully ignores the assumptions the previous model got wrong.

WHAT THREADPORT DOES
Threadport captures the active thread on chatgpt.com or claude.ai with one click and turns it into a "capsule" — a compact JSON object containing:
  • Intent — the primary goal in your own words
  • Decisions — what you actually decided, with rationale
  • Assumptions — yours and the prior AI's, high-risk ones flagged
  • Weak spots — places the prior model overreached, framed something absolute, or skipped an option
  • Open questions — only the ones whose answer would change the next move
  • Next actions — concrete commands, decisions, validations
  • Recommended handoff target — which model to continue with

The capsule is saved locally to ~/.ai-capsules/capsules.json on your machine.

WHY MCP
Threadport ships a small local MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. MCP is the standard the AI assistants in Cursor, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and Windsurf already speak. After a one-time config edit, those assistants can call:
  • get_latest_capsule()
  • list_capsules()
  • search_capsules(query)
  • reflect_on_capsule(id)

So you don't paste anything. You don't context-switch tabs. You ask Claude Desktop "continue from my latest capsule" and it pulls the structured judgment object straight from your machine.

LOCAL-FIRST AND BYO KEY
  • No account, no sign-up, no cloud history.
  • You bring your own OpenRouter, OpenAI, or Anthropic API key. Calls are routed through a small local server on http://localhost:8787 — never a Threadport-hosted server.
  • Capsules live on your disk. We don't see them.
  • Source on GitHub: github.com/ashahi10/ai-capsules

THIS EXTENSION DOES NOT
  • Run automatically on pages — every capture is user-initiated by clicking the toolbar icon.
  • Read tabs you haven't given access to. Host permissions are limited to chatgpt.com, claude.ai, and localhost.
  • Sell, share, or transmit your conversations to any third-party service besides the LLM provider whose key you supplied.
