About
SaferTab gives parents a simple, private way to manage their children's web browsing directly in Chrome. It is completely free, requires no account or sign-up, and keeps all data on your device. Nothing is ever sent to external servers. Set it up in under a minute. Open the extension, create a password, add a child profile, and start configuring rules. There is no software to install beyond the extension itself. FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS Track and Search Browsing History SaferTab records every site your child visits and lets you search through their browsing history at any time. All history entries are encrypted on your device using AES-GCM encryption, so the data is protected even if someone accesses the browser's local storage directly. Block Websites Add specific websites to a blocklist to prevent your child from visiting them. When they try to navigate to a blocked site, they see a friendly block page instead. You can also switch to allowlist-only mode, where only the sites you explicitly approve are accessible and everything else is blocked. Filter Adult Content SaferTab includes a built-in content filter that uses keyword-based domain matching to detect and block adult websites automatically. This works alongside your manual blocklist to provide an extra layer of protection. Daily Browsing Time Limits Set a maximum amount of browsing time per day for each child. SaferTab tracks usage down to the minute and displays remaining time on the dashboard. When the daily limit is reached, browsing is paused until the next day. Time-Based Schedules Control when your child can browse by setting allowed hours for each day of the week. Outside of scheduled hours, browsing is blocked automatically. Password-Protected Settings All parental settings are locked behind a password that only you know. The password is hashed using SHA-256 with a unique salt, so it cannot be recovered from stored data. Your child cannot change settings, disable the extension's rules, or view the configuration without the password. Multiple Child Profiles Create separate profiles for each of your children. Every profile has its own independent blocklist, allowlist, content filter settings, time limits, schedules, and browsing history. Switch between profiles easily from the extension popup.
