About

WebAlias Chrome Extension

A Chrome extension that allows you to navigate to your favorite websites using custom aliases.

How to Use:

Basic Usage (Two ways):
1) Best: Use the omnibox keyword
   - Type: `a` then Space, then your alias. Example: `a go` Enter → opens google.com
   - You'll also get suggestions as you type.
2) Works too: Type alias directly
   - Just type `go` Enter. We'll intercept popular search engines and redirect.
   - Tip: `go/` also works and is often faster.

How It Works:

The extension intercepts your navigation in three ways:

1. Search Engine Interception (Recommended Method)
   - Type your alias (e.g., "go") in the address bar and press Enter
   - Chrome will try to search for it on Google/Bing/Yahoo
   - The extension catches the search and redirects you to your saved URL instead
   - ✅ Works for: Google, Bing, Yahoo searches

2. Direct Navigation
   - Type your alias followed by a slash (e.g., "go/") and press Enter
   - Chrome treats it as a URL and the extension redirects you
   - ✅ Faster than search interception

3. Error Page Catch
   - If Chrome can't find the domain, the extension catches the error
   - It checks if the failed URL matches any of your aliases
   - ✅ Fallback method

Tips for Best Experience:
- Use short, memorable aliases: "go", "gh", "tw", "fb", etc.
- Always include the protocol in URLs: Extension will auto-add https:// if missing
- Organize with folders: Keep your aliases organized by category
- Use the search: Quickly find aliases when you have many saved

Examples:

| Alias | URL | Usage |
|-------|-----|-------|
| go | google.com | Type "go" and press Enter |
| gh | github.com | Type "gh" and press Enter |
| yt | youtube.com | Type "yt" and press Enter |
